Why It Matters
Under Canadian law, certification by an accredited third-party inspection body is a legal requirement for all electrical products.
Over the years, many customers have told us about their costly and frustrating experiences purchasing ceiling fans from U.S. retailers and online shopping sites.
Unknown to them, the products were not certified for use in Canada and lacked a valid electrical certification seal. When inspecting the ceiling fan before installing it, the electrician noted the ceiling fan was not certified and refused to perform the work due.
Potential Penalties
BOTTOM LINE: Certification is the law, but it also gives you peace of mind to know the electrical products you purchase for your home or business have undergone strenuous testing for performance and safety.
When certification is absent, it's a good bet the product is low quality and, very likely, a counterfeit version of a name-brand ceiling fan.
